The Home of Wallace
This is the location where William Wallace's house once stood.

Although Wallace was born in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, Scotland, he lived in Lanark and this is where it all "kicked off" when he assassinated William Heselrig, the English Sheriff of Lanark, in May 1297. Not much is known about the assassination, or why it happened. Blind Harry created the rumor that it was a revenge attack for Heselrig killing Wallace's (rumored) wife Marion Braidfute of Lamington. There is no evidence of Wallace ever being married. Blind Harry's accounts of events are not completely reliable as they were written 170 years after Wallace died.

Very little is known about Wallace outside of his military career and the rest seems to be speculation. The history of Wallace is often romanticised, although I do enjoy some of these accounts I am unwilling to share the inaccurate stories on this page.

St Nicholas Church
Close to the cache location is St Nicholas church. This church existed during Wallace's time although not in it's current form. At the front of the church you can see a statue of Wallace. It was donated to the Royal Burgh of Lanark by a local sculptor, William Forrest, in 1822.

The Scots looked at him as a hero, and the English viewed him as a murderer.

Congratulations to 6669 for being the FTF.
