We came across this stone while out walking and had always thought we should place a cache. Yesterday we did the Third Pentland Ridge Series which took us past this stone again.
It is named on the OS maps - but further research casts doubt over what it really is.
What do you think?
Font stone or base for a cross?
Apparently in 1833, two shepherds found some copper coins under the stone. The tradition continues of placing coins as offerings in the hollow - there are obviously plenty who continue the tradition.
Please replace the cache as found as there is not a lot of cover.
