Geocache Description:

To the soundtrack of the Beach Boys, surfing in New Smyrna Beach became a way of life with its own rules, language, culture, and customs. When surfing first came to NSB in the early 1960’s there was just a handful of adventurous teens who first crafted their own “boards” out of heavy canvas and rubber air mattresses wrapped with rope. They were all self-taught through trial and error and the town has never been the same. New Smyrna Beach surfers have set a standard of competitive excellence since the early 1970’s that persists today. NSB has since churned out more surfing professionals than any other community in the world and that is said to be attributed to the surf that is consistently inconsistent and sometimes so bad here at New Smyrna Beach that they learn to surf on anything and can hold their own around the world. Many of those first surfers are here today with their children and grandchildren watching the seas for a good ‘break’.
There is temporary parking in front of an empty lot near the cache.  Bring a pen. Do not hunt for this after dark, This is a residential area plus any light visible on the beach must be shielded during Turtle Nesting Season, May through Oct. CONGRATULATIONS SUPERMEG33 FTF! PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB ON THE RIP RAP ROCKS. FINDING THE CACHE DOES NOT REQUIRE CLIMBING ON THE ROCKS.
