Smalls Falls is a State Park located off of Route 4 between Farmington and Rangeley. It's a great place to spend the afternoon on a hot day, hiking along the falls or even swimming in the pools below! Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoors - maybe even find a hidden cache, or 3 actually (there are 2 other cache hidden there right now).
Congrats to Alpanama for the FTF!! ***In response to the comment log left on 7/9/12, No, you do not need to wade across the stream to get to the cache. I apologize if the coordinates are a bit off, we found out later that our GPS is off a bit and have switched to using a different one that is more accurate, but we haven't been back to the Falls to re-do this yet.*** We chose this spot because we had a rare "date day". My parents took the boys to a Red Sox game in Boston for the day and, it being a holiday, we decided to take a ride to a place we visited a few times while dating (more than 14 years ago!). To commemorate this, we put a "kissing moose" Maine magnet in the cache as a gift to the FTF. No, we are NOT moose, but we did see some moose "sign" while there today, if you know what I mean :) So watch your step, and have fun! The cache is a typical woods hide and is less than a 5-minute hike from the bridge if you were to walk straight to it. It is a 1/2 gallon camo'd round can. Watch your step as there are many roots and some rocks in places and it may be a bit slippery if wet. An additional hint besides the one that is encrypted: "Just before the waters meet, keep your eyes down by your feet. To the right, not to the left, look where trees and mosses cleft." Please be sure to re-hide properly when you are finished. There are some trinkets to trade if you are so inclined.
