Part of the Icelandic Filming Location Geotrail. This cache is hidden at one of the filming locations of Börn náttúrunnar (Children of the Nature) from 1991.
Börn náttúrunnar is the first Icelandic movie to be nominated for an Oscar. It tells the story of Þorgeir, who leaves his home to move into a senior citizen home in Reykjavík.
The cache is hidden at Staðarkirkja church in Aðalvík where the final scene of the movie is filmed. Other filming locations in Hornstrandir include Sæból. The house burned down shortly after filming, but a new house in the same style was built instead. And Straumnesfjall where the end shot of the movie was filmed. It is an abandoned military station on top of a mountain. It's a days walk from Látrar.
There used to be two villages called Látrar and Sæból, but they became abandoned in the mid nineteen hundreds, mostly because of how inaccessible it is.
There are no roads to Aðalvík, so you will have to take one of the scedualed boats that go from Ísafjörður or Bolungavík. The trip takes 45-60 minutes. And from Sæból it's about 30 minutes walk to the church. There are no scedualed fairs in winter, so the cache is only accessible during summer. And going to Hornstrandir in the winter is not recommended because of wether conditions.
You should always let the local police or landverðir know about your travels in Hornstrandir. You can email landverðir at landverdir@landverdir.is
