Wherigo 101: A Tutorial for Syracuse Wherigo Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Geocache Description:

Syracuse's first Wherigo!

What is a "Wherigo", anyway???
Wherigo is a game where you use GPS technology to guide you through physical locations and interact with virtual objects and characters. Wherigo caches are simply Wherigo games that lead you to a geocaching container.

What do I need to get started?

  1. An account at Wherigo.com ... Good news: You can use your existing Groundspeak account to log in!
  2. A device that is able to play Wherigo games:
    • Garmin Colorado (can be buggy, especially at Zone 5)
    • Garmin Oregon (can be buggy, especially at Zone 5)
    • iPhone, iPad: Wherigo app by Pi-Soft Consulting
    • Android phones: WhereYouGo app by Asamm Soft
    • GPS-enabled Pocket PCs: Wherigo Player
  3. A Wherigo "cartridge". A "cartridge" is simply a file you download and put on your Wherigo device. (The method for getting the file on your device varies greatly between devices.) Once you login to the Wherigo site, you can download these files. For this cache, you will specifically need to download the Wherigo 101: A Tutorial for Syracuse cartridge. The tricky part for people seems to be getting this file onto their device. Consult your device/app's documentation on how to get the file over, or ask someone else with the same device. (Android users: If you download the file from the Wherigo website on your phone, the downloaded file will be corrupted. You need to download from a computer, then either transfer the file over via a data cable or e-mail it to yourself and download it that way.)
  4. A bit of patience while you learn.
  5. A sense of adventure!
Please help improve this Wherigo tutorial!

I have done my best to explain the various concepts of Wherigo cartridges and how to play them. If you run into any snags or if something is confusing even after I explain it in the Wherigo cartridge or cache page, please send me an e-mail to let me know. The more information you can give, the better. I will try and update the cartridge to better explain things I might have explained poorly or glossed over. Thanks!

Version history:
For the full list of changes, check the version history for this Wherigo on the Wherigo site. You can compare the version of your downloaded cartridge with the latest available version on the webpage.

FTF:
Congratulations to LCSM, who worked together to complete the cartridge and make the find!
