Geocache Description:

Parking at the village green. Church, pub and post office all within short distance of each other. Perfick. Circular walk is from Blisland to Newton Downs. This walk is not for the feint-hearted as streams have to be traversed and challenging steps to be negotiated

From Blisland Inn head to the church at the opposite corner of the village green (toilets available nearby) Follow the lane west past the church to the Post Office Carry on the lane down a steep hill until you reach a wayside cross - this is St Pratt's Cross which marks the site of St Pratt's Well. St Pratt: A Christian martyr during the persecution of Emperor Valerian I (257–259 AD). Protus' name is sometimes spelled Protatius, Proteus, Prothus, Prote, and Proto. His name was corrupted in England as Saint Pratt. "Tradition holds that Protus and Hyacinth were brothers. They served as chamberlains to Saint Eugenia, and were baptized along with her by Helenus, Bishop of Heliopolis. Devoting themselves zealously to the study of Sacred Scripture, they lived with the hermits of Egypt and later accompanied Eugenia to Rome. There, they were arrested for their Christianity by Emperor Gallienus (260–268). Refusing to deny their faith, they were first scourged and then beheaded on September 11. The day of their annual commemoration is mentioned in the "Depositio Martyrum" on September 11, in the chronographia for the year 354. The chronographia also mentions their graves, in the Coemeterium of Basilla on the Via Salaria, later the Catacomb of St. Hermes. The "Itineraries" and other early authorities likewise give this as their place of burial. The parish church of Blisland in Cornwall was dedicated to Saint Protus. It is known locally as St Pratt and St Hyacinth."

We strongly recommend that wellies are worn as ground can be very squelchy in all seasons and to be able to cross the streams in comfort

The walk takes in riverside woods, fields and quiet country lanes. This can be tricky walk with dogs as there are a number of stiles that are definitely not dog friendly but we didn't know that and had Charlie dog with us. Determination and aid from us got him over them.
