You are looking for a micro cache in memory of Henry Rattai for whose vision of a shopping center here we owe some thanks.
The earliest sign of a shopping center here was when Peter Pocklington acquired the property and did some site preparation culminating in the erection of a sign pronouncing a new shopping center. And then nothing for years and years. The sign became a local joke.
Henry Rattai was born in Saint Ouens MB in 1932, moved to Winnipeg in 1948, started Kraft Construction in 1959, and was responsible for building many new properties. He won a contract from the city of Flin Flon to repair a bridge here and met the city engeneer at the time, Kevin Komarnicki, who was employed by the city from 1996 to 2005. Kevin introduced him to the idle shopping center property and Henry, seeing the potential market here for first class shopping, acquired the property and proceeded with site preparation and securing commitments from the three national chains that eventually built here.
