Feel boring with the concrete drainage?

The drainage in front of you is actually a section of Shan Pui River. Back in the Ming Dynasty, this drainage from here to Tai Shu Ha Tin Hau Temple 大樹下天后廟 at Tai Kei Leng 大旗嶺, was deep enough for navigation by ships. A local market, called Tai Kiu Tun Hui 大橋墩墟 and later Yuen Long Hui 圓塱墟, was also established.

In 1662, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty ordered the evacuation of coastal areas in southern China, the market was abandoned. After the evacuation was lifted, large ships could no longer navigate the channel as it was silted up.

In 1683, the market was relocated to Yuen Long Old Market (GC3G5X2).
