My late father-in-law, Atty. Rodolfo G. Lagoc had three daughters, one of whom, Rose became my wife (and favorite geocaching witch). We met in Singapore while on training for our respectives management positions at Citibank. On our first weekend together, she told me about a favorite MBA teacher, Father James Donlan who would say, "God writes straight with crooked lines".
In thinking about the career of my father-in-law, I often wondered how different it would have been if he had not been locked up as a political prisoner under then Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos. What heights could he have scaled to if not for this? But as he would often remind me, he was happy with how his life turned out and the change he was able to affect through his work.
In strolling (wheezing?) around Lake Merritt, I have often been intrigued by the crooked tree branches near the Lake. Indeed, they are crooked but they support the tree just as a straight branch would do. Tip of the hat to Honu of Team Io-Honu on the FTF. 3 for 3 today. Well done!
