***THIS CACHE WAS PLACED BY PERMISSION OF THE PARK MANAGER. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PLACING CACHES IN THE PARK PLEASE STOP BY THE OFFICE AND OBTAIN PERMISSION -- THE PARK IS OPEN FROM 9AM TIL 5PM DAILY***
THIS IS A NEW PARK AND WILL PROBABLY NOT REGISTER ON YOUR GPSr MAPPING. WE HAVE INCLUDED A WAYPOINT FOR THE PARK ENTRANCE TO HELP YOU ROUTE YOURSELF AND FIND THE AREA WITH EASE. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF OPTIONS FOR PARKING, BUT WE SUGGEST THAT YOU PARK IN THE DAY USE AREA. ONCE YOU HAVE STOPPED AT THE OFFICE AND PAID YOUR FEE, DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP A MAP OF THE PARK FOR THIS AND TRAIL INFORMATION.
Please let the park staff know that you are geocaching, and that we appreciate their allowing geocaches in the park.
After five full years of this cache being named after the tree that it was hidden in (or so I thought!) I have just been informed that it is not at all a box elder tree!!! I'm not sure how I got it confused, but I am so accustomed to being confused that I accept it graciously!!! Anyway, they tell me that you are looking for a Red Maple tree, so be advised.
Most of the trails are relatively easy walking, but we suggest that you wear good hiking shoes and plenty of bug spray. The usual poison plants are there, and please be careful of critters (the four, six, eight and no legged kind!) Also, DON'T FORGET your water and maybe a snack!
