Geocache Description:

Camo'd water bottle container placed near Capulin picnic area; cache is not at posted location, but parking at/near Capulin will result in a one-mile round trip hike.

I met Chris when he was fairly new to caching: he popped up on the ridge line that is south of I40 in the canyon east of ABQ. Chris had just walked up from Route 66 (now the only nearly legal path) with an ammo can in tow to place as his first cache. Since then he has become well known in the ABQ area as an FTF hound as well as scaling the more perilous Sandia Mountain caches. Instead of placing a cache honoring his exceptional scrambling skills or daring, this one honors the night wolf in Chris, but is still in the Sandia trail system. Congrats for completing the Sandia Trailmaster series.

Two ways to go for this cache now:

Night cache:

Get out your hi-beam flashlight for a rambling night run down a paved trail, across a meadow and down a path to celebrate Chris (wolf11469) completing the trailmaster series as part of the tenth team (with TheTechCacher).

Go to the starting waypoint and flash your light down the paved trail and you should see a light shining back. Keep going down the trail and get used to following the points of light; not all lights are within sight of each other, but they are not very far apart either. Some reflectors will give you direction, if you come to four reflectors arranged in a diamond, you are at the end of this hunt and need to back up a little bit (not too far though) for another direction. There are also reflectors placed to get you back from the cache to the paved trail (you can get back to your vehicle from there).  Trail is a bit bumpy but not treacherous as long as you look where you are going; about 150 ft change in altitude across the run to the cache.

Letterbox:

Hop the gate and continue down road to end loop; continue on trail across meadow; take right at fork (about 150 ft down trail) and continue on trail downhill about 600 ft (0.11 to 0.12 mi, in odometer mode); should be some large smooth rocks/boulders on your right. Look perpendicular to trail - about 50 ft away off the trail is a tree with three reflectors telling you what to do. If you go down the trail too far you come to a tree on the left that has 3 or 4 reflectors (tree is within 10 ft of trail on left); at this point, backup 50 ft (about 20 paces) and you should be at the smooth rocks mentioned earlier.

*** Congrats to "Trailmaster" wolf11469, TheTechCacher, 2wareagles, fam2go, papa&cyn, FlyingGator and Stroll Along for FTF!!! ***
