Geocache Description:

IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT, PLEASE LET US KNOW BY JULY 28/29 SO WE CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY. IF NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED, I WILL BE CANCELING THAT PORTION OF THE EVENT!

Year 5!

Can you believe it's year 5 already? It seems like yesterday that we were planning our first Hall of Fame Picnic. We nestled it at Neahwa Park in Oneonta and enjoyed. Since then, it's grown and we've had quite the time with it.

Over time, we've held the event in different parks and different places. This year, we return to Oneonta's Fortin Park, but we take it to the backside of the park at the Grove Pavilion. It has a more geocaching feel to it. More shade, some wooded areas and places to run around and have fun.

The Grove Pavilion area has some nice things to be able to do. There are horseshoe pits, a playground, a sand volleyball court, a ball field, a lot of open field space and more.

We are planning an all-day game (much like last year) for the event. The details will be released when we finalize things. It will be a photo/scavenger hunt thing that will be quite open so you'll be able to cache the day away as you work on your list of things. The event itself will be in the afternoon. Teams participating in the all-day affair will have to meet at 9 a.m. to get your packets. For those who don't want to participate in the event, the log book will be available once the "official" event starts at 2:30 p.m.

This is a potluck picnic. So please bring something to share. When you know what you are going to bring, post a note and we'll keep a list so hopefully we won't have things double up. We have most dinnerware, napkins and plates and such, so that should be set. If you are bringing something that is perishable and you plan on participating in the all-day game, please let me know ahead of time and we'll be able to refridgerate it and keep it fine.

Once again, we will do the photo challenge for the event. It won't be as specific, however. In other words, you won't have to go to a specific spot to do things.

Each team will get the same list of photo opps. There will be 25-50 different items on there. Get as many or as few as you want. Each items has different point values. BUT, the point values will differ on each sheet. So Photo 1 could be 10 points on one and 2 points on another.

FOR THOSE who will be taking part in the photo challenge, please post that with your will-attend or post a note. Teams of no more than four people and two caching names will be allowed. IF your family (with one or two names) totals more than four, I can let it go. But let's try and keep it to four or fewer on a team.

The photo part of things will begin at 9 a.m. sharp at the event location (use the coords). You'll have until 2 p.m. to return with your photos (you must use a digital camera of some sort... or if you get done early and use the 1-hour developing somewhere!).

For those not taking part in the photo part, the event log will come out at 2 p.m. Nobody will be allowed to sign before then.

We'll start having some food around 2:30-3 p.m. Awards and such will follow. We'll try and do a group photo, too, being it's our fifth year!

Please post what you are bringing for the pot-luck version of the picnic, too, so we can keep track!
We will post "Announcements" for anything major as well.

We're looking forward this event.

Notes:

  • Prizes will be awarded to winners of the event.
  • We will attempt to do a giveaway. If you have something you'd like to donate, please let me know ahead of time.
  • Please post a will-attend and what you might be bringing, so we don't double up on things.
  • This event will be held rain or shine.
  • Dogs are allowed, but in the area of the event, please keep them on a leash at all times.
  • There are several caches in the park and we hope to have new ones throughout the area for the event.
  • Unlike last year, there won't be specific areas you have to travel. You can go as close or as far as you want in the time parameters.
Please check back for more details! Looking forward to seeing everyone there and I hope enough of you will be able to participate in the full event day!
