Geocache Description:

When I was setting up the original Trolley Time cache, I found an obscure clue to the route the trolley took through Newtown back around 1900.  I wanted to hide a cache at the spot but there really wasn’t a good place for anything bigger than a nano.  So I figured I’d do an offset multi-cache so cachers can enjoy the little piece of history then find the actual cache at another little piece of history.

When you get to the coordinates of Stage 1, look around carefully and you will find a nearby building that has obvious significance to the Newtown Trolley Line.  My guess is that the trolley took this route so it could stop by the Newtown train station.

While you are at Stage 1 you will need to find information from three places:
- The trolley building
- The ‘Church’ sign across the street
- An oval tag that says “Phila. Elect. Co” and a number.  It’s on the closest  telephone pole to the trolley building and on the same side of the street.

To find the coordinates for Stage 2, you need this formula:

N    40° 13.ABC
W 074° 56.DEF

To solve the formula:
A= The last number of the date on the Church sign
B= The last number of the street address of the trolley building
C= The total number of numerals (not letters) on the telephone pole tag and the Church sign combined
D= The middle number on the telephone pole tag
E= The first number of the date on the Church sign plus one of the middle numbers of that same date
F= The total number of letters on the keystone sign on the trolley building minus 13

Now you’re all done with the hard part.  Stage 2 is a pleasant, under 10 minute walk away and should be an easy find at a place with a bit more historical significance than Stage 1.

Parking:  Street parking is available at both stages.

NOTE: At Stage 2, DO NOT WALK ON THE LAWN of any private residence.  It really isn’t necessary.
