We owe so much to the people of the past and not just the famous ones. Yet we spend so much time rushing into the future.
This series of caches are all located in or near rural country cemeteries. These cemeteries are not filled with mausoleums for the rich and famous but with simple stones that mark the place for people who laughed and cried and hoped and dreamed like us. The world was very different for them and yet they were warmed by the same sun and cooled by the same evening breezes. It helps me regain some perspective in my life to think of them and how their world was similar and different from mine.
When I was five years old I remember talking to my great grandmother who was 91. When I think today that she was born before the Civil War and could have met Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davies I am thrilled and awed by the immediacy of the past.
Take some time to look at the stones and try to imagine the lives of the people they commemorate, and please give this ground the respect it deserves..
