Geocache Description:

Aberdeen@War - a series of caches at some well-known and less well known sites associated with Aberdeen during 1939-1945

In 1940, a bomb dropped on a house at 42 Forbesfield Road resulted in the death of a local resident.

There is still a house there - which to be honest looks like all the other houses in the street.

Later in the War there were many bombing raids over the city, especially around the harbour and shipbuilding areas. The worst raid was on the city was on the night of 21 April 1943 when 97 people were killed or missing and 235 injured. Reports in the local newspaper the Press and Journal report that people were strafed with machine-gun fire in the streets during this raid. There was a total of around 30 attacks on the city resulting in 178 people killed and 599 buildings rendered uninhabitable.

The Forbesfield bomb reared its head again in 2009 when an unexploded bomb was found on an allotment in Gray Street very close by.

Cache is a magnetic nano. Please take your own pen / pencil. Retrieval requires extreme stealth
