Geocache Description:

Although the lock and adjacent river are fenced off parents with young children with them should be extremely careful and keep an eye on them at all times. Tackling the first stage should be left to an adult and great care should be taken as the ground underfoot is unstable with rotten logs and holes.

Haltham Lock is one of originally 12 locks on the Horncastle canal which connected the River Waring at Horncastle to the River Witham at Dogdyke. Work on the canal started in April 1793 and was finished, and finally opened in September 1802 after many trials and tribulations. With the coming of the railways and especially the building of a branch line from Kirkstead to Horncastle in 1854, the canal went into a rapid decline and was officially abandoned in September 1889 although sand and gravel from Kirkby on Bain continued to be transported for another 10 years.
The coordinates listed are for the first part of a 3 stage multi, car parking is available along the verges nearby but care should be taken as although this is a quiet road traffic can appear at speed from around the bend.

At the first location Your search will be for a Black micro which contains a second set of coordinates, when you find it make note of all the information it contains, it will help you find the next micro container.

The second set of coordinates will take you to a nearby location, here you will need to search for an object that will help you retrieve the next micro cache containing the coordinates to the final cache.

For the Final cache you are looking for a traditional tub cache with the usual log book, pencil, a couple of bits and bobs and for the first to find an unregistered TB.

Please replace everything back as you found it
