Geocache Description:

This cache is alongside the Wye Valley Walk - a beautiful path following the Wye; this section between Kerne Bridge and Lydbrook. The path is well trodden and busy at times, but often muddy. You'll see lots of day-canoeists [and groups of them] with young people excitedly discovering the beauty of the river [and the Symonds Yat rock further down the river].

This particular cache is at the site of the bridge which took the railway from Kerne  Bridge to Lydrook and Symonds yat. The railway was closed in the late 50's - oh what a beautiful trip that must have been. The cache is a simple tupperware box below a wall by the path near the Stockingboat cottage. Mrs Stockingboat was the lady who used to operate the ferry here. Up behind the cottage N51 51 44.5  W 002 36 04.1 is the cutting towards the tunnel cutting under Coppett Hill - take a torch and wellies if you want to go through. The cache has been moved slightly due to feedback. It is by the path below a stone block wall at ground level, just south of the cottage and a footpath marker.

The cache was set up for/by the Coppett Hill Geocaching festival - June 30th. 2012. The cache is permitted by the Coppett Hill Trust landowner, and the cottage owner.
