This cache is part of the Pvt. George Shannon Trail caches that will lead you throughout Northeastern Nebraska. Pvt. Shannon became lost near here while traveling with Lewis and Clark and the Corp of Discovery in 1804.
Pvt Shannon probably trekked through the valley of the West Bow Creek in search of the lost horses. If so, he arrived about 66 years before the village of Bow Valley was established and he only saw open prairie. He must have been very miserable since there were no comforts like electricity, phones, and water. Consequently, he nearly starved to death.
