Ethan Whites Encounter
Shortly after Rose Maries mysterious disappearance a young U.S. Deputy Marshal named Ethan White moved to the area. Deputy White, an educated man from Boston and former Pinkerton Detective, had recently been assigned to the southern Arizona district. Deputy White was recruited to assist in the investigation by local law enforcement and the Arizona Rangers.
One night while investigating the presumed kidnapping Deputy White came upon a drifter sitting next to a small camp fire not far from the Parker residence where Rose Marie went missing.
Little is known of their encounter as Deputy White was found the next morning barely conscious and clinging to life. He labored to gain the strength to speak and stated only that the drifter was found to have a pink ribbon in his possession. It was assumed that a struggle ensued upon Deputy White discovering this possible clue.
Ethan White later gave account of a young girl who came to his side as he laid bleeding and dying. He stated that she held hid head in her lap and sang slow church hymns as she rocked him back and forth. He claimed that she stayed by his side until he was discovered the next morning.
The officials that located Deputy White reported that they were drawn to the area by the sounds of a laughing girl.
