Geocache Description:

The cache is located a little off the normal tourist traps, 1.2 kilometres North from the Lake Argle spillway bridge in fairly remote country next to a delightful set of cascades and a deep clear pool full of fish, some rocky mountain outcrops.

Not a lot of people visit this area.

Apart from the noise of the cascades, it is very quiet at the cache.

The cache is a traditional cache with the usual collection of trinkets etc in a clip lock plastic container and wrapped in a  black plastic bag and should be an easy find right next to the track.

It is an easy 1.2 km drive North on "Long Michael Plain Road, inititally a well formed dirt road marked as 4WD. The road is sign posted "Roy's Retreat," and is on the Western side of the spillway. Do NOT attempt to drive closer to the cache on the Eastern side of the spillway, as this will require a rugged and dangerous crossing off the spillway on foot. Access by higher clearance 2WD vehicles would be possible in the dry season to within 200 metres of the cache.

We hope it is far enough above the flood level, and does not get burnt out in the frequent bushfires in this area.

Long Michael Plain Road continues for some distance along the spillway, and there are some great little picnic areas alongside the spillway. It does deteriorate further after the cache and some steep creek beds would be impasable in the Wet.

Note the warning signs at the spillway bridge, and keep clear of the edges in some places as the banks could collapse into the spillway without warning.
When we visited the cache for maintenance in July 2013 the sign at the entrance to Long Micheal Road had a closed sign on it. This is not an official sign, being placed by the eccentric owner of "Roy's Retreat," which is many KM further down and at the end of the road, well away from the cache. It is a public road and many people use it to access the numerous campsites, fishing and great views along Spillway Creek
WARNING. Although this cache is easy to find it is located in a wild, remote, seldom visited and potentially dangerous area if you do not follow the instructions CAREFULLY. If you do not follow the guide, description and directions carefully you may experience or be exposed to potentially dangerous terrain. You must only attempt to find the cache by traveling down the WESTERN side of the spillway. If you follow the directions carefully you can drive a high clearance vehicle in the dry season to within 3 metres of the cache. This is our first cache. Hope you enjoy the view, and fishing and the adventure.
