The cache is placed in the Mines of Spain along the Eagle Scout Trail after it dips through a small valley. The trail can be slippery when wet and sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.
The cache is placed with the permission of the Iowa DNR. It is located along the Eagle Scout (ES) Trail in the Mines of Spain State Recreation Area. The park is open year around from 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
To find the parking area, follow the Olde Massey Road, off Highway 52 south, to the Cattese Hallow Access Area
NATURAL CHARACTERISTICS: Portions of the park have seen diverse use over the years - cattle grazing, row cropping, logging, mining and quarrying. Other portions remain much as they were when Julien Dubuque arrived in 1785.
