Geocache Description:

Like another well-known series in the area, this is a cache for people who prefer to stay in the short grass during warm weather. This cache is located in NC game lands near a semi-busy intersection. You may want to consider wearing orange during hunting season.

Located along the rolling hills of northern Durham and southwestern Granville counties, there lies an area that was once a farming community known as Knapp of Reeds. Many families once called this area home, until World War Two called for the building of bases around the country to house and train soldiers for the theaters of Europe, Africa and Asia.  In 1942, families who had inhabited the area for almost two hundred years, were forced to pack up and leave the only place they called home and make way for Camp Butner, a United States Army combat infantry facility. After the war, a majority of the land was returned to it's owners, but most chose not to return.
Though many didn't return, they held close the stories and traditions of their former community, and passed the history down among generations to come.  One such story describes a young man who traveled the local road beside a field not far from here, lies a well known cemetary that contains some of Butner's most prominent.  The legend goes that a young man named Paul, would ride his horse down this path everyday to a farm, in which he had hired his labor to another farmer in the area.  Paul always had to be at work early before dawn, and the days wouldn't end until the blazing sun was setting in the sky, casting shadows across the valley.
As it was for the next two weeks, the night was very dark as a weary Paul hoisted himself up onto his wagon for the several-mile journey back to his farm.  Nearing a particular creek ford along the route, he felt the weight as if someone or something had hopped onto the back of the wagon.  At the same moment, the horses became jittery and acting strange, as if they were'nt happy with this unseen rider.  Turning around to see if he could catch a glimpse of this thing that had the wagon weighed down, he saw nothing.
For the next two weeks, Paul kept on his same routine down the dusty path and each time he came to the creek, he felt a presence on the back of his wagon, as if someone has hopped onto the rear and weighing it down; and each time he feels this uneasy feeling, his horses start to act very nervous and stop in their tracks..

Maybe it was the ghost of a weary farmer, trying to get from one place to another..  Or could it have been Paul's imagination? But still today in the present time, you can still catch youself looking over your shoulder, while you find this cache..  Even long after the cars have passed...
