Cache is located in the direct path of the Tornado that hit Wood County on June 5th 2010 just before midnight. Cache can be driven right up to. Spot was picked to remember those that perished and all those that rallied around the victims of the tornado. Bring your own writing utensil. Congrats to sm qeo for the FTF.
This is one of two caches that will put you in the direct path of the June 5th 2010 tornado that hit Wood County just before midnight. It hit up to a 4 on the scale of 0-5 and I believe it had seven fatalities with over fifty homes destroyed, the Lake High School destroyed and the Lake Township Emergency Services/Police building destroyed. It threw a bus over 50 yards and wrapped cars around trees. As you drive to both caches you can still see the bare trees and empty foundations two years later. It was unbelievable to see the damage but fantastic to see all the neighboring communities pitching in to help out anyway they could in the next few weeks. There is a road that will take you directly to the cache so do not attempt from the highway. You will need to bring a writing utensil. As you drive to this cache you will have to go past the new Lake Township Emergency Services/Police building and you can still see some of the damage the tornado caused down this road. Standing at the cache and looking East you will see the new Lake High School building that will be used in the fall of 2012. The Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer gave permission for this cache to be placed.
