Geocache Description:

Kemence
The village is situated in the northest part of Pest county, 80 kms far from the capital city, in the valley of Brook Kemence, which runs down the slopes of North-West Börzsöny Hills. It lies about 250 m high above sea-level. Kemence got its name after the brook along which it had been built. The name of the village has Slavian origins (Kamenca, Kamenica) and it means a brook that has a river-bed full of stones. It is one of the oldest settlements in Hungary: it celebrated its 850th anniversary of its foundation in 2006. The first ruling dynasty here was the Hunt clan. As legends say, Godo who was born in this clan founded the village and also had a castle built here.
By the main road the old-styled so called "long running houses" can be seen typical in Upper Hungary e.g. the Regional House at 244 Fő Street. The former  County Hall , which is a school now, is conspicuous among the others, as it was built in Baroque style in 1751 and it was the centre of Hont county from 1752 to 1806. In 1858 it was rebuilt in the romanticism. Also in the second part of the 18th century the new and large church and vicarage were built. The statue of Saint John from Nepomuk, who is the patron saint of travellers, remained to us from this time, too. Between 1910 and 1912 the Calvary and the Saint Tomb in the side of the Vineyard were made. From this point there is a picturesque view to the village and Slovakia in the neighbourhood and also the peaks of Börzsöny Hills. From the village you can make several tours to the forest along public footpaths, which can be one or more days long, as you wish.

The tour:
From village Kemece follow the footpath marked  - and - as far as the youth camps after the swimming pool. Then follow the path as far as the Börzsöny main basic point. The path marked by  -  turns up to Peak Miklós, but you should walk along the path marked by  -  to Csarna valley. Walking past the Fekete-völgy (Black valley) Guest House (it was once Vilati) you will get to Hamuház. From that onwards you should follow the  + as far as Fekete field. In the meantime you will go past the Halyagos-Postás rented holiday chalet. In Fekete field  you do not need to go towards Rakodo, but on the path  ∆  upwards. Then the path becomes really steep and you will catch sight of rocky forms. Following the path you will get to the edge and find a rock-rim with a wild rose bush. This is the Stone Jar. I have hidden the case here. Peak Csóványos rises in the east (to the left) from the wild rose bush. Opposite you can see the Szabó stones, where the mountain ridge links Csóványos and Nagy Hideg Hill. The case can be found in the right, so in the western direction from the bush, in the den  of a tree, close to the ground. The case is a small kitchen box (app. 10 x 12 cm)with a blue lid. The den is hard to see because it is in the other side of the tree. Be careful, as the tree is directly on the edge of the rock-rim, and under it there is a precipice. The footpath marked by  ∆ signs takes you to path  -  and  -  , to the mountain-pass that links Magosfa and Csóványos Hills.
