Market Deeping was previously known as East Deeping until market status was awarded.

The town is known for its stone buildings dating back to the 17th century, its largely 15th century church dedicated to St. Guthlac and the remains of a market cross.
West Deeping is a village in that forms part of The Deepings, lying just off the A16 road towards Stamford to the west of Market Deeping, hence its name West Deeping.
Joanne Wake had a moated manor house at West Deeping. This was later occupied by Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII, who also owned Maxey castle.
