The Madison Land Conservation Trust has recently acquired this island from a family who has owned it for generations and donated it to the Trust (www.madisonlandtrust.org). Eventually there will be a plaque placed on the island. In the mean time, there is a small cache to commemorate the event.
To commemorate both the gift of this island to the Madison Land Trust, and to commemorate Father's Day, my daughter and I placed this geocache. Unfortunately, the island is fairly densely overgrown, but if you look for a path of least resistance, there is a fairly simple way to gz. Beware of the poison ivy which grows in abundance on the island, but know that it is fairly easily circumvented (it seems to grow in clumps, and is pretty easy to navigate around).
Take a family member and kayak up the East River. The two closest places to access the river are at Friends and Company on Boston Post Rd (Rt 1), or at the boat launch ramp on Neck Road. There is another new East River MLCT cache in the area as well - go for it!
