Geocache Description:

CONGRATS TO SNOWAKE FOR THE FTF! ******************************** Nice walk with a few caches to enjoy while on The Neusiok Trail. You will begin on the Pine Cliff Section of the trail whick goes 5.6 miles. Cache is no more than 2' off trail. Cache is close to trail so please rehide as well or better than you found. This will be the 7th in the series.

While the entire section is interesting, the section from Pine Cliffs to NC 306 is exceptionally scenic. For the first mile, the trail follows the sandy beaches on the south shore of the Neuse River. Occasionally, the trail takes an inland jog, mostly to accommodate horses, but you may continue to hike along the beach. After a little over a mile, the trail heads up a small bluff as it leaves the comfortable sands of the Neuse River beach. The trail continues to parallel the Neuse River along the woodland bluffs for another 0.6 miles before turning away from the River. In the next few miles, the trail crosses several ridges and creeks. The larger creeks are crossed with the assistance of boardwalks. You will reach the spur to Copperhead Shelther in another 2.6 miles. The trail continues to parallel the Neuse tributary on the right for another 2 miles, after which you climb out of the drainage and onto higher ground. This section is complete when you reach NC 306 approximately 3 miles from Copperhead Landing. You may see black bears, white tail deer, foxes, raccoons, otters, squirrels, alligators, birds and snakes. Note.. some poisonous snakes do live in the area so watch your step. If you do see a snake, Leave It Alone. There is no need to kill it. As far as insects you will encounter mosquitoes, Deer Flies, Ticks, and Chiggers so please use spray. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times! We plan on putting caches out along the whole trail by the time we are done. All caches will be Med. lock-n-locks or comparable. Parking is free. No water at the parking area, so please bring some, you will need it, especially in the summer months.
