Geocache Description:

Kid-Friendly Ammo Can.

This series of caches was put out in honor of Father’s Day 2012, and the majority of these caches were designed to be found on a father-child excursion (however, a couple caches are harder).  For all these caches the tree cover is extensive and the GPS’s will jump around a lot.  Because of this I will make the hardness rating at least a 2.

Wear Insect Repellent and Take Lots of Water!!!!  I am serious about the insect repellent (I have picked up numerous ticks on this trail).

I was so tired of doing ten-mile hikes for only one Smiley.  So I decided to take a portion of the Lone Star Trail and place caches along the way.  As far as I can tell, this is the only stretch of the Lone Star Trail open at this time.  Thus if you follow the 2.8 mile trail from the I-45 trailhead to the Elkins Lake trailhead there are a total of 16 daytime caches (including the caches that SkyRookie put out earlier).  Anytime underbrush is involved I give a terrain rating of 3.  In addition there are trees down over the trail.  If you don’t want to make the trip on the trail in and out, it might be wise to park a car at the I-45 entrance and a car at the cul-de-sac off Greentree in the Elkins Lake subdivision (N 30° 38.849; W 095° 32.409).  The exit for this cul-de-sac from the Lone Star Trail is just before the trail crosses the dam and is by a power line pole that has an orange sign next to it.
