Geocache Description:

The last couple of years I have been asked why we don't do this trip further south. In the past we have tried to keep this a Salem based event but we have done all parts of the Salem area river systems so this year we will be starting in Albany and working our way back to Buena Vista. This should satisfy both groups for a fun day on the river.

The plan is to meet  up at the McDonalds at the posted coordinates near I-5 at 8am for some geo chat and breakfast then for those that wish to go on the float we will hit the river at approximately 10am. The put in point will be Bowman Park in downtown Albany. You will have to make arrangements to leave a vehicle at Buena Vista Park in Buena Vista where we will be taking out. According to my river book this float will cover 12 river miles and take 6 hours. Of course we being Geocaches there will many more stops for caches along the way and a lunch stop. So depending on river current my estimate would be 7 to 8 hours for the day trip.
For the very hearty we will be continuing on for a campout on Wells Island on Saturday night then back to the river on Sunday. This is a very shoot from the hip portion of the event where we do what we want and I don’t make much effort to keep the group together, just a relaxing float down the river. We do plan to stop at the Chateau Rogue for some adult refreshments so I do not recommend this part of the trip for the younglings. We will be taking out on day two at Independence.
If you are coming along for the really fun part then you will need to be sure you have a canoe or kayak (inflatable’s and motor boats don’t work well for this) a life vest for each person in your party, a whistle for each person, lunch and don’t forget to get your Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit. The fee is $7 and only 1 person per craft is required to have a permit and the permits are transferable.
