BFF Caching Buddies KeyResults and 2katz have been asked repeatedly about how we use GSAK in our geocaching exploits. So, as promised, we decided to gather to share how we use GSAK with you.

This event covers all the basics including:
- Why bother with GSAK?
- Getting geocaches loaded into GSAK
- Using GSAK to help decide where to cache and which caches to go after
- Loading the caches into your GPS enabled device from GSAK
- Logging your days effort using GSAK, including handling trackables

You are encouraged to bring your laptop to follow along with us.

A couple notes:
Space is limited to about 20 persons comfortably and power outlets are limited. Be sure to log “will attend” only when you are sure you will be there. If we fill up, we’ll have another session at a later date. First come, first served!
WiFi is readily available at the library, in order to access gc.com from your laptop, to fully enjoy all the goodies. You are encouraged to work along with us!

So we don’t get too bogged down, please install GSAK version 8 onto your laptop ahead of time and be sure you know how to connect your GPS enabled device to your laptop too. GSAK supports most popular GPS units.

We will assume you have found and logged geocaches and understand how it works via Geocaching.com and we will also assume that you have a premium membership. A premium membership is required to use many of the features we’ll show you.

Our setup:
We will demonstrate using a WiFi enabled Windows laptop with GSAK version 8 and a Garmin GPSMAP 62s /62stc
Time permitting: we will cover how we use GSAK with our smart phone, as well as some really cool filtering and sorting features that you cannot do without GSAK.

GSAK Version 8 unleashes incredibly useful tools and functionality that really empower premium members of geocaching.com to new heights.
For instance:
- Did you know that you can draw a line around an area, like George Bush Park, and retrieve all the caches within the lines?
- Want the last 30 logs?
- Want only some of the photos?
- Don't want anything over a 3 difficulty, or anything over a 2.5 terrain either? No problem!
- How about only caches that were found in the past 30 days? or placed this year?
- How about only the caches placed by Muddy Buddies or Family Ryan? Again, no problem.
- How about only the caches with 2 or more FAVs? Sure, you can do that too.
- Did you know that you can custom log 300 finds in about 20 minutes and simultaneously let all your TB inventory "visit" all 300 caches at the same time? You can!
- You can also handle all trackable retrievals, and drops too at the same time with almost no effort at all.
- You can even upload all your geotagged photos to the caches too, almost effortlessly!
- Did you know that GSAK has the ability to generate an optimal route to retrieve a group of urban caches for you in the most efficient manner? With the help of macros, it does.

During this session we'll share some basics to get you started with GSAK version 8. Later, a second event will cover more in-depth topics and cover all of the tasks mentioned above and much more.
