Välkommen till Sápmi!

Sápmi, eller Sameland som det också kallas på svenska, är det område som omfattar samernas historiska bosättningsplatser. Sápmi sträcker sig över hela Nordkalotten samt en stor del av Skandinaviska halvön. Området omfattar delar av Sverige, Norge, Finland och Kolahalvön i Ryssland.

Antalet samer uppskattas till 70 000 i Sápmi, varav i Sverige ungefär 20 000. Samerna har en till stor del gemensam kultur och levde ursprungligen som nomader. En del av samerna har genom tiderna ägnat sig åt renskötsel, men beroende på var i Sápmi de bor finns även samer som ägnar sig åt fisk och jakt.

Welcome to Lapland!

Sápmi, or Lapland as it is called in English, is the area where the Sami people historically have lived. It stretches across northern Fennoscandia but parts of the territory can be found in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

The number of Sami are appreciated to about 70 000 in Sápmi, whereof 20 000 are living in Sweden. The Sami people all over Sápmi has a common culture and originally lived as nomads. Some of the Sami have worked with reindeer herding, but depending on where in Sápmi, there are also Sami that are into fishing or hunting.
