O'neill Bay
O'neill Bay is a black sand beach on the west coast of the Auckland region, at the northern end of the Waitakere Ranges. It sits adjacent to, and to the north of, Bethells Beach, which is a popular surf beach. While Bethells Beach has a surf patrol, meaning you can safely swim between the flags during summer, O'neill Bay does not.
O'neill Bay, and this cache, can be accessed most readily from Bethell's Beach either along the beach (requiring crossing of the Waitakere River as it crosses the beach - not always possible depending on river level, tide and surf), and over the headland at the northen end of Bethells Beach, or from the Te Henga walkway. The cache itself is located at a junction along the Te Henga walkway where a track leads down to the beach. A nice spot to stop for a rest, about 30-40 minutes from the Bethells end of the walkway.
HAPPY CACHING!!!
