Geocache Description:

Reasonably easy but well worth taking time to explore the immediate area.

Located in the parish of St.Philip, Sam Lord's Castle is a once beautiful Georgian mansion built in 1820 by the notorious buccaneer Samuel Hall Lord.

Legend has it that Sam Lord acquired his wealth by plundering ships, which he lured onto the reefs off the coast, by hanging lanterns in the coconut trees. Captains mistook these lights for Bridgetown and wrecked their ships on the reefs.

It was converted to a hotel for the rich and famous but was sadly allowed to be run down and was eventually closed before being destroyed by fire in 2010.

Take time to appreciate the surrounding wildlife- even the green monkeys run around the trees here!

Located near a fabulous view of the two beaches that can be accessed from the property, this is our first cache drop as we've enjoyed our trip here so much. If you park at the front of the main building, walk around the hotel to the left, please be careful to avoid the area to the immediate right hand side of the hotel as the ground is very rough and we think there maybe cellars underground! The ground can be a little rough and as the flora takes over it will get worse although locals use the beaches.

The cache container is a small waterproof swim-pot with a logbook and pencil inside- maybe space for geocoins but not TBs.

Congratulations to sebetbaba on the FTF! Well done, I thought no-one was going to find this cache and location!
