Geocache Description:

This cache is within Lake Metigoshe State Park.  Please know that there is a state park entrance fee, which is $5/vehicle/day or $25 for the annual pass.  During the summer months, there is usually someone working the entrance station. In the off-season or after business hours, self-registration is available at the entrance station. Trail maps can be picked up at the entrance station or the main office.  You could spend the entire day geocaching within this great state park and the local area!

The northern portion of Lake Metigoshe State Park was once owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America as a Boy Scout camp. In the 1990's, Lake Metigoshe State Park acquired the land when the camp dissolved. Near the cache, you'll find the kitchen/dining hall that was utilized for the scout camp. The cabins that you passed along the road to this location, were once the camp counselor cabins that have since been renovated and turned into the park's rental cabins. They include and are named White Pelican, Loon and Slemmen. The smaller cabin on the right side of the road as you approach the kitchen/dining hall facilities was once known as the cook's cabin.

Starting in the summer of 2012, trail work will be complete the newest trail system here at the park. If you look at our new trail map, you'll notice that the trails going from the kitchen/dining hall area out to Hemerick Point are named after scout levels, including Tenderfoot Loop, Scout Loop, Eagle Loop and Cub Loop. Hopefully while you are visiting you'll have some time to explore our newest trails here at the park.

This cache is an ammo can.

Enjoy and happy caching!

This cache was once a cache called South of the Border and we utilized the same log book so you may see logs already in the book. However, if you visited this cache after 6/29/12 you may be the first to find!
