Tour de Diner #10: X Marks the Spot Event Cache
Ericles: I think everyone who attended has logged in so it's time to archive. Hopefully everyone took the time to check out the antique cars and enjoyed a nice feast before heading out to trails and trials. See you all at the next TdD - TBD!

New Jersey. Think of the state and you think of all sorts of things. The beautiful mountains of the skylands. The long sandy stretches of the Jersey Shore. The urban cityscapes of Newark, New Brunswick, and Trenton. The infamous Exit jokes. (Yeah, we’re bored of those.) Marshes and forests that pockmark our state from end to end.
And diners.
We're the diner capital of America. We take a wonderfully American concept and make it New Jersey's very own. Our state thrives on coffee in big ceramic cups, giant buttery pancakes, and eggs made any style.
So the "Tour de Diner" is born. This is a series of events that's going to be regularly held, but not regularly scheduled. It will not be at a fixed time, so to allow for flexibility in the Jersey Geocaching calendar and to make it easier to come along. And because we have so many diners to choose from, it's not tied to any one place. No, to experience Jersey, we're going on a true "Tour de Diner." And in honour of our state's other "Tour de Cache," the first 21 events are planned to all be in different counties. (We’ll tackle the DeLorme later!)
Of course, diners are open for all meals...but the best time to go is breakfast. So this event series is going to be structured around breakfast, but not in a way that it conflicts with caching! Join us on Weekend mornings for a bite to eat and some geo-talk before starting the geo-day. We'll try to keep the diners close to geo-hotspots for some geo-fun after brekkie!
Tour de Diner #10: New Monmouth Diner, Middletown, NJ
(This diner fulfils the Monmouth County event, naturally)
05 August 2012, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
1887 New Jersey 35 N, Middletown, NJ
The Middletown Diner, a landmark of its namesake town since 1967 was severely damaged by a fire a few years ago. It was reborn as the New Monmouth Diner which, with it's glowing neon, glossy paint and shining steel, truly looks like a classic diner. Antique cars adorn the parking lot and classic movie posters line the interior walls adding to the retro feel. The atmosphere and food is casual, just as you would expect at a NJ Diner!
Within 10 miles of the event you will find dozens of beautiful parks featuring over 100 miles of wooded trails and 400+ caches. This area also hosts the northern section of the Henry Hudson Trail... perfect for a bike ride after tall stack of blueberry pancakes!
We’ll be there by 8:00 AM, with the special Diner-licious logbook. Arrive by 10:00 and the logbook is guaranteed to still be there for you to sign. Feel free to stay as long as you want for geochat…but don’t forget…caches are waiting!
