HISTORY
The BCRT is aproximately 80 kilometers in length, so says the internet! The east leg is from Port Elgin, through Paisley, jogs over to Walkerton and down to the Bruce Huron county line and the west leg is from Port Elgin to Bruce Power. In the past, the trains would run through Port Elgin and over to Ontario Hydro (currently Bruce Power). Now the BCRT is used by walkers, horses, for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and the trail is well used by ATVs
PARKING
On the north side of Concession Road 2, turn north onto the rail trail. This section of trail is open to vehicles approximately 1/3 of the distance north towards Concession Road 4, and is where I chose to park. This section is open because it is one of 2 access routes to the quarry operation west of the rail trail. At the junction of the trail, where the other quarry access crosses it, is where the standard orange trail gates are located. You can nudge your car up close to the gates but don't block the trail. You can see in the gravel, the turning path of the heavy equipment trucks and parking on the right, up close before the quarry access will put you right in their way. From the trail gate location, it is convenient to turn your vehicle around here.
THE CACHE
This is a simple tree hugger 3 OZ camo painted LnL. It is not very far past the orange access gates. Please watch your footing as ground level vines are everywhere.
ATTRACTION: peaceful trail walk...testing your hill climbing skills...lots of caches on this trail
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN TO SIGN THE LOG...CONTAINER IS TOO SMALL TO HOLD A PENCIL
PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF WHERE YOU ARE RETRIEVING THE CACHE CONTAINER FROM, AND RETURN IT TO THE EXACT LOCATION TO PREVENT MIGRATION...IN THIS CASE, IN IT'S NEST
