Good friends of ours who live in this area were disconnected by the ‘Great Storm of 2011’. They did have radio – but the message to get more information from various websites was not very helpful when the power is off, and when the phone lines are still down. About a month later the road to Nelson reopened and they were pleased to be fully reconnected at last.
This area still showed some of the damage 6 months on when we placed the cache.
We advise you not to take the direct route to the cache as better access does exist.
The cache is a 'small' with a couple of trinkets as well as a log book and pencil when placed. Please replace as found. There was some prickly stuff in the general area, but we avoided it and you should be able to as well.
