ST. SEBASTIAN CHAPEL
É possível contar parte da história de Jacareí e do Vale do Paraíba começando pela Capela São Sebastião. É a Paróquia mais antiga de Jacareí e da Diocese de São José dos Campos.
Documentos registram que a Capela São Sebastião foi construída no ano de 1728 (esta data está gravada no Cruzeiro de madeira de seu pátio) e segundo consta é a igreja mais antiga da cidade. Dizem que neste local a cidade realmente começou a crescer porém, o fato de seu arredor ser muito alagadiço, fez com que um novo núcleo desenvolve-se no Largo da Matriz.
You can tell part of the story of Jacareí and the Paraíba Valley starting from the Saint Sebastian Chapel. It is the oldest Parish of Jacareí and of the Diocese of São José dos Campos.
Documents record that the St. Sebastian chapel was built in the year 1728 (this date is engraved in the wood cross of its patio) and reportedly it is the oldest church in the city. It’s said that in this place the city really began to grow but the fact that its surroundings was very marshy, caused a new core to develop in Largo da Matriz.
