Geocache Description:

This is on a single-path trail that winds through the Todd Wildlife Sanctuary, which is opened to the public year-round. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the entire path, with several scenic over-looks along the way.

This cache was placed on the Todd Wildlife Sanctuary with permission.  This is an under-visited piece of of coastal Maine, across from the historic Hog Island, which was purchased in the early 20th century by the Todd family, and in 1936 was turned into a nature education camp with the National Audubon, which included famed staff member Roger Tory Peterson, of the Peterson nature guides.

Birdwatchers, or birders, often created what is called a "life list," which is a list of all the birds they have ever seen. You must not only find and sign the log, but you must record any birds you see while you are walking around the sanctuary.  The cache contains a Birds of Maine guide as well as a Bird of Maine checklist that I request that you PLEASE LEAVE in the cache!  The book is for fellow geocachers who may not be as familiar with their birds to look up what they may have seen!  Check off the birds on the list if you see them and leave it in there.  In this way the cache will develop it's own life list!

Please be curteous and park in the large parking lot on the left on Audubon Rd.  The employees of the Project Puffin, part of the National Audubon do live in those buildings seasonally.

If you see an Osprey flying around, you should check out the live camera of it's nest on Hog Island!
