Woman in an Armchair, 1874
Pierre Auguste Renoir (French, 1841 – 1919)
Bequest of Mrs. Allan Shelden III
Dimensions Framed: 32 x 27 ¼ in.

One of the original “impressionists,” Renoir painted the female figure throughout his career. In this early work, he accentuates the glowing flesh of the sitter’s face, upper torso, and arms by surrounding it with the dark tones of the dress, hair, and armchair. The Puzzle:
Use the sign to the south of the nearby archway for your answers.

Count the letters in the second line. Now subtract this number from the posted north coordinates.

Count the letters in first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth and 12th lines. Now subtract this number from the west coordinates.
