Geocache Description:

Amália (it's enough to just use her first name) was the queen of Fado and Portugal's biggest artistic ambassador. Her singing essentially defined the sound of the genre, flying from Lisbon to Japan, around Europe and the United States (becoming the first Portuguese face on American TV when she appeared on NBC's "Coke Time with Eddie Fisher" in 1953). Many of her songs were poems by some of Portugal's greatest poets, today classics interpreted by a new generation of singers. She died in 1999 and was given the honor of resting in the National Pantheon. Her house is now a museum and the 2-volume "The Art of Amália" CD compiles her biggest hits.
