Geocache Description:

The cache is a nano, containing only a log. Bring your own pencil (with a sharp point!).

Kilrea Manor House, built in 1834 to manage the Mercer's Company's assets in the area,  became a convent school before its transformation into the present country club in the 1980/90s. A system of small streams and loughs was carefully managed so that the local businesses, including a corn mill, were assured of water and power. One of these, the nearby Washing Lough has served the community in many ways but today is a haven for walkers and fishermen. Its tranqulity, wild flowers,  thriving numbers of coarse fish and fowl mask memories of the tragic drowning of six members of the Deery family here in 1952. The plaque informs visitors of the background to the Wishing Stone.
After feeding the ducks, the bar and restaurant are well worth a visit.
Dogs have been excluded from the area.
