Located 17 miles NW of Cle Elum at 5,703 is the former location of an L-6 ground cabin built in 1932 and abandoned in 1948. It is now gone. Remnants of the tower are minimal, the usual broken glass, nails and grounding wire.
Not for the faint of heart.
The trail from the east gains 3,000' in 2 1/2 miles, before contouring along the ridge a short distance.
There are two stream crossings with views of several small waterfalls, but bring plenty of water, cause I'm not convinced it runs year round. Although very chilly, it's very refreshing on a warm day.
Deer, rabbit and goats are active in the area and ~4,800' there appears to be an active mine.
The trail from the west only gains 2,300' in 2.9 miles.
The trail crosses two streams near the start and then passes Little Joe Lake after ~1,250' and 1.5 miles. It then gains another 950' in the next mile.
The cache is a small lock-n-lock located at the base of a large rock ~10' off the trail, just before the lookout site.
