Geocache Description:

This is a five cache series identifying the locations of the almost forgotten city of Hebron, Texas, or the little town that would not die!

#2 Then – The “main” street in town.

You are looking for a small container BYOP.

ANT Aleart. A cacher recently encoutered ants, please be careful.

There are some private residences at the end of the street so please use your “stealthy’ skills when you are hunting, especially late at night.

1902 The Red River, Texas and Southern (later The Burlington Northern, currently the Burlington Northern Santa Fe) Railway was built through the town along 1st Street.

On 1st street across from the tracks (as recent as 20 years ago when I moved up here) was a storefront building but no longer. It is gone to the four winds fading into history but 1st Street remains as a viable street. The steam trains of the past no longer blow their horns in the dead of night issuing forth that oh so lonely sound in the night. In fact, as of about a year ago, the diesel trains horns no longer sound. :-(

Other significant dates are:

Original settlement circa 1843.

1890: Heron got their own post office.

1902: The Red River, Texas and Southern Railway built through the town. This was along 1st Street. In later years, this line would become part of The Burlington Northern; and, currently, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Mid 1970: Incorporated as a city!

Here is what is left of Hebron:
