On Sunday, August 19, 2012, concluding the SAW 3 weekend we will be saving the lives of our great cottonwood trees in Police Point Park.
All equipment (gloves,wire cutters,pliers)necessary for the event will be provided. We will have expert tree wrappers in attendance. After a lunch will be provided by the Interpretive Program to say thanks for the hard work.
The Interpretive Program is excited to be teaming up with the local Geocaching Community for the SAW 3 Event weekend.
Beavers are essential to our ecosystem, but their tree cutting can get carried away at times. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure our enormous and old friends, the cottonwoods, are safe. We use chicken wire to wrap the base of a tree where beavers would or have already began to chew. The wire does not hurt the beaver but redirects them to other food. The event will start at 10am until noon.
The Nature Centre, operated by Medicine Hat Interpretive Program, offers a variety of displays, programs and information. Centre’s hours are Tues.-Sun. 9-5 with no admission charge.
