One of seven caches put out today; all are camo match tubes, placed from the seat of a kayak when the water was just below the top of the dam. Bring a pen for the waterproof log paper. All are typical shoreline hides.
The parking and launch area are at N43 28.928 W73 47.867 and close to another cache, GC2GCQZ Schroon River Launch. The dam shouldn't be a concern, except perhaps if the river is high and flowing over it. Keep to the south shore as you set out and you'll be well away from it. This cache will take you in that direction.
Years ago the Warrensburg Board and Paper Mill was located near the launch area. Eventually it ceased operations and fell into disrepair. Later on the dam washed out and the river dropped to its natural level. Stone pilings used for log booms were visible in places from Rte 418.
In more recent years the dam was reconstructed and now is a source of hydro power. Occasionally the pond is drained for maintenance on the dam; if so, I will need to disable the caches until it is refilled.
Congratulations to Budwind on the FTFs, and to Bullygoat29 for getting out the same evening
