Geocache Description:

Welcome to Tacoma's Main library!

This cache was placed with the permission of the Tacoma Main Librarian. This was placed during a recent geocaching class that I held as part of the Tacoma Library's summer teen activity program.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CACHE IS LOCATED INSIDE THE LIBRARY!  Do not waste your time searching for this cache on the library grounds as you will not find it!

Tacoma has 8 city libraries spread out over the city. This cache is located at the main library which opened in 1903 and was the Carnegie Library built in Washington. Steel mogul and philanthropist Andrew Canegie gave the City of Tacoma $75,000 to build the original library which is now the home of the Handforth Gallery, community meeting rooms and the library's Northwest Room and Special Collections room. The library houses over 250,000 books, magazines, compact discs and videos.

To obtain this cache and claim the smiley please note the following:

The cache is hidden where you would expect a geocache to be hidden.....in a place where maps are found!

To get to the map section follow these instructions:

Turn off the GPS (it wont help you inside the building)

Go up stairs to the second floor. At top of the stairs turn right.

Go towards the "Special Collections" sign and go up the stairs and follow the walkway to the double columns on the right across from the microfiche machine.

Veer right and walk towards the glass display case. The cache is on right side of the case behind it to the right in a map drawer marked "USGS - G" which is the first bottom drawer you see.

Shh!  A quiet congratulations goes to 2nd1of3 for the stealthy and quiet FTF.
