The Kunitachi College of Music is a private music school in Tachikawa, Japan. It was originally founded in 1926 in Yotsuya, Tokyo as the Tokyo Conservatory of Music. Later it moved to Kunitachi, Japan. It was the Japan's first institution of higher education specializing in music.
Now located in the City of Tachikawa. From 1950 until the 1970's the school was located in the City of Kunitachi hence the name. It is often called Kunitachi Ondai for short. On occasion the name is mistaken as Kokuritsu College of Music because of confusion in the reading of the first two Chinese characters. Because of that it is mistaken for a public university and not a private school.

国立音楽大学は、四谷に
国立音楽大学は、東京都立川市柏町5-5-1に本部を置く日本の私立大学である。1950年に設置された。大学の略称は国立音大（くにたちおんだい）、国音（くにおん）。
大学名は、1970年代まで国立市にキャンパスがあったことに由来する。従って大学名の国立の読みは「くにたち」が正しいが、しばしば誤って「こくりつ」と読まれたり、私立大学ではなく国立大学であると誤解されることがある。
私立では日本初の音楽の高等教育機関である。
沿革
1926年 東京都四谷に東京高等音楽学院として開校。その後国立市に移転
1928年 新交響楽団（現NHK交響楽団）と共演し、ベートーヴェンの『交響曲第9番』を合唱する
1947年 国立音楽学校に校名を改称する
1949年 系列校の国立中学校（現国立音楽大学附属中学校）、国立音楽高等学校（現国立音楽大学附属高等学校）を設立
1950年 新制大学として国立音楽大学発足。国立音楽大学附属幼稚園も合わせて設立
1953年 国立音楽大学附属小学校設立
1968年 大学院音楽研究科（修士課程）設置
1978年 現在の立川市の敷地に移転
1988年 楽器学資料館設置
1995年 TAC多摩アカデミック・コンソーシアムに加入
2004年 従来の7学科を演奏、音楽文化デザイン、音楽教育の3学科に再編する
2007年 博士後期課程設置
