This Historic Cache placed with the kind permission of the City of Flagstaff
Auto courts or Motor courts were very popular along route 66 and Flagstaff had quite a few. Jack Rittenhouse, in his 1946 A Guide Book to Highway 66, had this to say about the town “FLAGSTAFF (Pop. 8,089; alt 7,000’;hotels: Monte Vista, Weatherford, Bank, Commercial; many courts, including: Arrowhead Lodge, El Pueblo, Flagstaff Motor Village, Rock Plaza, Vandevier Lodge, Nickerson’s, Mac’s, Motor Inn, Cactus Gardens, Dixon, Sunset; garages: Cheshire, Babbitt, Waldhans; curio shops; stores; cafes; all facilities.)”
The 1939 AAA Directory of Motor Courts and Cottages listed the El Pueblo Motor Court as having "8 cottages with baths". It was expanded and is now operating as the El Pueblo Motel.
This cache is part of the Historic Route 66 Geocaching Project, a series created by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated as an official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
